I wish we had more John Milius films. His tough guy, gritty, and raw storytelling, is front of brain as I write Fortune's Gate. Expect to see some Milius-style vivid descriptions, memorable dialogue, and authentic characterizations. His writing is visceral and evocative, and I'll be using him as inspiration, especially some of his work on HBO's "Rome", to bring the story to life and immersing readers in the world of Fortune's Gate.
What would Glenn Gary Glenn Ross in a fantasy setting look like? Well you might find that kind of story in Fortune's Gate. David Mamet's distinctive writing style, with that sharp dialogue, quick pacing, and unexpected twists, will be in the mix for Fortune's Gate. I'll be drawing from Mamet's unique approach to storytelling for sure.
I feel like I've now set the bar too high! But alas, Fortune's Gate, as a low fantasy novel, draws inspirartion from a lot of great stories and storytellers. The incorporation of these influences into a far-off world filled with danger, intrigue, mystery, and adventure will hopefully create a captivating and unique reading experience for fans of fantasy as well as other genres.
