Step into the world of Fortune's Gate, a story that takes inspiration from a diverse range of sources, including old school D&D campaigns, classic westerns, and mafia movies--and brings in writing influences like Patrick O'Brian, Maurice Druon, John Milius, and David Mamet. It's a unique fusion of influences for a fantasy world that hopes to transport readers to a thrilling and dynamic world filled with interesting characters and great adventures.

At its core, Fortune's Gate is a tale of adventure, loyalty, and revenge set against the backdrop of a rugged and unforgiving frontier. The novel explores themes of honor, justice, and the pursuit of fortune. The dusty traderoutes, taverns, and hand-to-hand combat of the ancient times come alive as the characters navigate through treacherous landscapes and face off against ruthless enemies.

But Fortune's Gate doesn't stop at frontier adventures. It also borrows from the rich tradition of mafia movies, infusing the story with intrigue, crime, and power struggles. The underworld of organized crime adds a layer of complexity to the plot, as characters navigate the dangerous and cutthroat world of gangs, corruption, and betrayal. The Fotune's Gate world gives a place we can explore the machinations of crime families, secret societies, and forbidden alliances, where the stakes are high and the consequences of double-crossing or betrayal can be even more dire than death.

I also want to give you an idea of the types of characters you'll encounter in the story. Expect to see significant influence on Fortune's Gate from the Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey-Maturin Series, a beloved historical epic set during the Napoleonic Wars. I'll attempt to pay homage to O'Brian's meticulous attention to detail and rich characterization. Certainly, the friendships, camaraderie, and hardships of the characters will be reminiscent of the deep bond between Captain Jack Aubrey and ship's surgeon Stephen Maturin.

It will be hard to not see some characters as inspired by characters in Maurice Druon's Iron King Series, a medieval epic that chronicles the intrigue and power struggles within the French royal court. That Series weaves in political intrigue, royal machinations, and courtly drama as characters navigate the treacherous waters of power and ambition. In Fortune's Gate, there will be rich tapestry of politics and the complexities of not of royalty, but of ruling Families,

I wish we had more John Milius films. His tough guy, gritty, and raw storytelling, is front of brain as I write Fortune's Gate. Expect to see some Milius-style vivid descriptions, memorable dialogue, and authentic characterizations. His writing is visceral and evocative, and I'll be using him as inspiration, especially some of his work on HBO's "Rome", to bring the story to life and immersing readers in the world of Fortune's Gate.

What would Glenn Gary Glenn Ross in a fantasy setting look like? Well you might find that kind of story in Fortune's Gate. David Mamet's distinctive writing style, with that sharp dialogue, quick pacing, and unexpected twists, will be in the mix for Fortune's Gate. I'll be drawing from Mamet's unique approach to storytelling for sure.

I feel like I've now set the bar too high! But alas, Fortune's Gate, as a low fantasy novel, draws inspirartion from a lot of great stories and storytellers. The incorporation of these influences into a far-off world filled with danger, intrigue, mystery, and adventure will hopefully create a captivating and unique reading experience for fans of fantasy as well as other genres. I hope you'll enjoy meeting the characters and learning their stories.
